Last weekend was the season opener of the Virtual Le Mans Series with the 4 hours of Indianapolis, presented by SimRacing.Club. We have decided to take part in this series with two completely new but very talented Russian drivers.
Boris Vakholsky was doing the qualifying and he was able to reach 9th spot on the grid. The start was a kind of chaos including a crash in front of Boris, but he managed it really well to get through and
improved to 4th! He had a lot of good battles, showed great defending and especially good and consistent pace in his first stint.
After his first pitstop, he was still on a great 4th place, trying to defending against three followers. It worked very well until Lap 62, when he was smashed by an LM-P2, trying a too optimistic overlapping. He crashed into the wall and got massive suspension damage (12 minutes of repair time).
After that it was time for Alexey Zagorodnev, but we felt back to 13th place in class. It was not the time to give up, because our target was still to finish the race and maybe to get some points. Alexey was doing great, getting step by step into a really good rhythm. With 1:12 h on the clock, we have decided to take an earlier pitstop during code 80. It was a really hard challenge for Alexey to control his fuel consumption and in addition to be as fast as possible to catch the guys in front. Due to his faultless driving he gained position after position running into the top 10 and brought the car home on 8th place with an impressive last corner overtake!
Of course it's frustrating running on 4th place and getting involved in an innocent crash, but that's racing. This 8th place is still a good result, but much more important is the general performance of Boris and Alexey, especially in their first endurance race!
Boris was having a great race putting us into 4th place and Alexey did a great job aswell, fighting back from P13 to P8. Congrats guys!!!
Now it's time to focus on the next race in 4 weeks, on the Fuji Speedway in Japan.
