Last weekend was the 6th round of the VEC with the traditional 12 hours of Sebring in Florida.
Our congratulation goes to #11 Atlantic Motorsport for winning the 12 hours overall and to RGPL Endurance Team - SimTech Motorsport for their win in the LM-P2 class, great drive and great job!
Now let's have a look through the results of our 3 cars, starting with #6 LM-P1:
#6 LM-P1 was driven by Sascha Glatter, Bernd Schmidt and Patrick Baaden. Sascha has driven the qualifying and was able to get pole position after a great fight against the guys from Deltec Racing Team.
The start went good, but due to the different tyre choice he couldn't hold the lead. He was doing a great job until lap 19, where he misjudged a situation with a lapped GT, he collided and unfortunately crashed into the wall. 1000s of damage repair was a heartbreaker for them. After that they tried everything to bring the car home, but it was really hard because it seemed that the car was still broken.
In the end they still finished on a solid 5th place. They could maintain their chance for the championship win with only 9 points behind RGPL Endurance Team.
#81 GT-LM was driven by Alex Bräutigam, David Jundt, Shane Chancellor and Mike Horn, who made his VEC debut. Alex qualified the car and was able to put the car on pole with a final lap thriller.
The race start went well even if Alex lost the lead in turn 1. After that he did a good job to keep the car within the top 3. After 2 hours it was David Jundt who took over the car and continued the great drive. Then it was time for Mike, who did a great job as well, especially for his first drive in the VEC.
Halfway through the race we were 3rd behind very strong and fast teams of Pulse Motorsport and REVS Simracing UK. Shane drove the 7th and 8th hours and did a good job driving into the night with really tricky visibility conditions.
Alex stepped back into the car with 4 hours left and it was a great fight for P2 against a strong team from rSeat.fr Racing Team. Then the deciding moment of the race, our team took over the lead after the former leaders had an unlucky crash with a long repair stop.
For the last hour it was time for David and he left the pits on 1st place, 30s in front of the rSeat.fr Racing Team. He made no mistake and was able to bringt the car home.
In the end our team grabbed the 2nd win in this VEC season, after an absolutely great drive from all 4 drivers without any mistake. Just brilliant guys and a huge congratulation!
#82 GT-LM was driven by Andreas Schröder, James Duku, Fatih Demirci and Martin Swaczyna. Andreas did the qualifying and put the car on a strong 5th place.
He was able to hold his position and did a great job defending against strong and fast drivers! But the luck is not on the side of our #82. In lap 28 they had again an innocent accident with an LM-P2, which resulted in damage. After repairing the damage they felt back to the end of the field. Andreas finished his 2 hour stint with a still damaged car and handed over to James, who unfortunately had an accident in his first lap. It was hard for them, again a long damage repair stop, but they could keep up their motivation. After that all four drivers did a great job to bring the car home without any mistake and solid pace.
In the end they finished on a disappointed 15th place. They have had high expectations for this race, but sometimes our #82 hasn't the luck on their side.
It was a thrilling and great race. Congrats to all finishers! Now it's time to focus on the next race. Good luck for our drivers during the next round at Interlagos.
