Ready to Race Get a Cockpit

Last sunday was the season kick of with the Daytona 500. Bernd was feeling better after his flu and was ready for the race. At the end of the Quali, where he had a little mistake in his fastest lap, he found himself on P15. He knew he could make it during the race to get into the top 10, if all goes smooth and fine. Bernd was doing a good job from the start of the race and decided to pit as late as he could for the first pit stop period, which brought him up to P5 and he could go with the lead pack. Unfortunate he got a small hit on the backstraight and had to go over the gras and lost a few positions there,

this brought him into a bad position at the first caution came out and he was caught by one of the cars which has been crashed. With a body damage and a not known engine damage at this point, he decided to let the car repair, but he lost a lot of power, not only that he missed around 20kph top speed, also the acceleration of the car was pretty bad at the restarts after different cautions. In lap 153 then the engine blew up entering Turn 3, which ended in an 34min repair stop and every chance on a decent result has gone. Bernd drove out of the pits with 8 laps to go to defend P19 at the end of the race. Overall it was a great start into the season til the bad luck ended his race. But with 17 rounds to go, it's a long way to go through the season and it can only be better in the next rounds. Next race is next sunday, February 11th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Bernd is looking forward to it and we keep our fingers crossed that he'll have a better race there then.
